Dermaplaning is a simple, safe procedure that uses a surgical scalpel to gently exfoliate the surface of the skin. It removes the top layer of dead skin along with fine vellus hairs (peach fuzz). How is Dermaplaning Performed?
Dermaplaning is performed in the office with no anesthesia needed. The procedure takes about 30-45 minutes. A member of our team will first cleanse the skin. Then we use a sterile, surgical scalpel at a 45 degree angle to gently exfoliate the entire face, repeating until the desired level of exfoliation is achieved. A serum is applied afterward to replenish the skin.
What is Recovery Like After Dermaplaning?
There is no downtime needed after dermaplaning. Some temporary redness may occur which subsides within a few hours. Most patients can resume normal activities right away. Peeling and flaking may occur as the dead skin sheds over the next 3-4 days. It is important to use sun protection as the new skin will be highly sensitive.
