Cheek Augmentation in Tampa and St. Petersburg, FL
Your cheekbones create natural highlights and subtle shadows that enhance your appearance. Having cheeks that are undefined or hollow, though, make you appear older, tired and less attractive. Cheek augmentation at Davis Facial Plastic Surgery gives your cheeks a more defined and natural appearance. If you are one of the many men and women in Tampa, St. Petersburg, and surrounding communities in Florida who want to improve their cheek area, entrust your care to Dr. Dean G. Davis, a dual-board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and otolaryngologist.
What is Cheek Augmentation?
Dr. Davis performs cheek augmentations to enhance the appearance of cheeks on a patient’s face. To accomplish this, Dr. Davis may either place a physical implant on the cheek or fill the cheek with injectable fillers such as Radiesse® and Sculptra®.
For patients who have lost some of the contours of their cheeks due to age, congenital birth defects or other accidents, a cheek implant will either improve or reconstruct the face to enhance the cheekbones. Cheek implants are often done in conjunction with other facial reconstructive surgeries, such as facelifts and chin augmentation.
Benefits of Cheek Augmentation
Why should you get a cheek augmentation? The benefits are numerous, such as
- Subtle results that restore balance to the face
- Replication of bone structure
- Restoration of self-confidence
What is the Procedure for Cheek Implant Surgery?
As with most surgical procedures done on the face, cheek implant surgery is done by placing small incisions on the face. The incisions are made inside the mouth at the top of the upper lip in the gum area to prevent external scarring. Dr. Davis creates a small pocket inside the mouth into which he inserts the implant. The cheek implant is positioned on or below the cheekbones. If need be, the implant is secured in place with a small titanium screw. The incisions are then sutured and dressed upon completion of the surgery.
Cheek augmentation, which takes no more than an hour, is performed on an outpatient basis.
Cheek Enhancement with Fillers
If you choose to get this type of cheek enhancement, rest assured that this procedure is rather simple — it takes about 15 minutes, and only a local anesthetic is required. Unlike many other injectable fillers, these types of fillers can last for up to a year.
Whether you choose Radiesse® or Sculptra® to add to your skin, it instantly adds volume to your cheeks. The injection stimulates a process called collagenesis in the skin, which essentially builds collagen up in places that didn’t exist before. This will provide additional contouring to the skin, especially in the injection area. Radiesse® and Sculptra® are bio-compatible, and work with your bodies’ natural resources to create a more contoured appearance and firmer skin.
Preparing for Cheek Augmentation
To be considered for cheek augmentation, a prospective patient must undergo a complete physical with extensive bloodwork, and stop using all blood thinning medications, ibuprofen, aspirin, and vitamins and supplements at least two weeks prior to surgery. Patients who smoke must not use any type of nicotine products for at least two weeks prior to the surgery.
Recovery from Cheek Augmentation
Side effects of cheek augmentation are minimal — for the first few days after surgery, the patient will experience tightness, swelling and overall discomfort. In addition, there will be some difficulty in moving the mouth thanks to the incisions made; Dr. Davis will typically prescribe a medication to assist with easing the discomfort.
In addition, until the healing process has begun, the patient will be required to be on a liquid diet. Within a few days, the swelling in the face will subside, and the incisions will heal within a week to 10 days. Strenuous exercise needs to be avoided for the next few weeks, and the entire process of healing will be completed within three to four months.
With the use of Radiesse® or Sculptra®, there is no downtime.
How Do I Know if Cheek Augmentation is Right for Me?
Cheek augmentation may be right for you if you feel that your cheeks have lost definition in comparison to the rest of your face, or if your face is missing volume due to age or genetic anomalies.
How Much Does Cheek Augmentation Cost?
The cost of cheek augmentation is dependent on the patient and the extent of the procedure. Because cheek augmentation is often considered a cosmetic procedure, insurance typically does not cover it; however, we will help you determine if your health insurance plan will cover any of the expense. We accept most major credit cards, as well as cash and credit cards, and offer financing through CareCredit®.
