Neck Lift
in Tampa and St. Petersburg, FL

One of the most visible regions of your body to show early signs of aging is the neck. If you are a resident of Florida including Tampa, St. Petersburg and the surrounding towns with wrinkles, excess fat, or loose skin in your neck region that has left you looking a bit older than you’d like, a neck lift from dual-board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and otolaryngologist Dr. Dean G. Davis may be the ideal procedure to help you look more youthful and refreshed.

What Is A Neck Lift?

A neck lift works the same way a facelift does — it reduces the excess skin and muscle from the area, then “pulls” the skin tighter to give the patient a more youthful appearance. Typically, a neck lift will involve a small incision made at the nape of the neck, just behind the ears. In this way, there will be no visible scarring for the patient.

Skin, fat, and muscle will be molded through these incisions, and any excess skin will be cut away. The incisions are then closed after all of the necessary adjustments are made. The recovery time necessary for a neck lift is similar to that of facelift recovery.

Neck Lift Benefits

The biggest benefit of a neck lift is the reduction of the so-called “turkey waddle”. Other benefits include:

  • Reduces of the excess fat deposits, and the excess skin that comes as a result of age
  • Correcting jowls to create a more defined jaw line
  • Tightening of loose neck muscles

Best of all, a neck lift is less invasive than a facelift!

Ultimately, the goal of a neck lift is to correct the common signs of aging — loose skin, loose muscles, and fat deposits.

Aging Process of the Neck

When the most obvious signs of aging begin to appear on our neck, we will end up looking older than our actual age. Loose skin, excess fat deposits, and flabby tissue on the neck will all conspire together to age us quicker than we may necessary want, which is why it’s important to look into the neck lift cosmetic option, and then decide if this is right for you.

You should definitely consider a neck lift if your neck is showing the following signs of aging:

  • Decreased elasticity of skin
  • Loose muscles
  • Excess or drooping skin due to the increased age of the sub-muscular system
  • Excess fat deposits

Am I a Candidate for a Neck Lift?

Surprisingly, the typical neck lift candidate is male, and between the ages of 40 and 60. However, many women get neck lifts as well.

Regardless of your age, you should only consider getting a neck lift if you are in good overall health (a general physical exam will determine this prior to the commencement of any procedure. You should also make sure that you still have some elasticity in your neck (a doctor can check this for you if you aren’t sure).

Ask yourself the following questions before you decide if getting a neck lift is right for you:

  • Do you have loose skin underneath your chin that needs to be reduced?
  • Do you want to correct the appearance of “bands” on your neck?
  • Do you just want to restore your neck’s youthful appearance?

If you said yes to one or more of the above questions, a neck lift is just the procedure you need!

The Neck Lift Procedure

Dr. Davis often recommends the outpatient neck lift procedure to be done in conjunction with a facelift or liposuction for enhanced and best results. Local anesthesia is often used, but it can also be done under twilight as well. Dr. Davis considers your unique aesthetic goals before deciding the intensity of the neck lift performed, and the amount of incisions required (a more intense neck lift involves an incision under the chin in addition to the small incisions underneath the ears).

Recovery and Follow-Up Care

As with any surgical procedure, a neck lift will have some post-procedure symptoms and require aftercare. Following your surgery, expect to experience minor swelling and bruising. Pain will be minimal, but if it turns out to be unbearable, pain medication can be prescribed.

You can expect all of the symptoms to subside in a matter of a few weeks.

You may return to work about 10 days after the surgery is performed. During the first week after your surgery, limit yourself to light activity around the house. It may be up to a month, however, before you can return to your normal rigorous exercise regimen.

Real Patient Reviews

“From my initial consultation for a deep plane facelift to my post op visit, I was provided the most excellent service from Dr. Davis and his staff. I am a 65 year old female who had a lot of facial and neck sagging. Everyone, and I truly mean everyone, with whom I came into contact throughout the entire process was professional, compassionate, and efficient. Each person took time to explain what would happen, what to expect and answered any questions. I followed all the pre-op and post-op instructions precisely, and I couldn’t believe there was no pain and only moderate swelling and bruising. I am amazed with the results. My friends say the procedure took 20 years off my appearance. I so very highly recommend Dr. Davis and his staff. I truly can’t give them enough praise. Thank you, Dr. Davis and staff!” – Cindy L.
